Cas: Okay, if you don't like, uh, 'reckless', I could use 'insouciant', maybe.
Dean: Are you coming?
Cas: (Sighs) Of course.

Misha Collins: The Overlord

This gif of Misha always reminds me of Tom Cruise, does anyone else see it?

Taking a break from my essay to eat some lunch and thinking about literature analysis.

Literally from sixth grade until still now in college, in every literature class you take, you’re required to look deeper at the text, write essays about a character’s motivations and the theme of the work and the literary technique that the author uses to convey the story. You’re writing down your interpretation of the work, and as long as you’re not completely bullshitting the essay, it’s accepted as a valid interpretation.

I’m not so sure, then, why some of our execs/creatives are so weirded out that we do exactly the same thing for Supernatural. In order to get my high school diploma, this was one thing that I had to have mastered: the ability to look for the underlying meanings in a piece of work. Don’t tell me I’m looking too far into ‘just a simple tv show’ when I’ve been told to look for meaning in stories from the moment my stories got more complex than ‘See Spot Run’.

Instead of being weirded out by fans analyzing your work, take it as a compliment that we care enough about these characters to do the in depth character analysis that quite a few of us probably dragged our feet doing in high school. The sign of a good story for me is when I’m not dreading writing a ten paragraph long analysis of their character, when I’m looking forward to it because you’ve created such a rich character for me to explore. Because I can tell you I’d much rather be writing double the amount of pages needed for my literature essays solely focusing on just a shard of Dean’s complex personality.

OK, now back to my essay.

Finally, Castiel was able to say it, and thus his last words were dedicated to Dean.
